Writing A Strong Literary Exploration Essay: Tricks And Hints
Topics of literary exploration essays are aimed at finding out your opinion about some situations or statements. That is why your essay must contain not only a description and analysis of some literary character, but also his or her experience relating to the main topic and your personal experience that supports your thesis.
In order to make the essay persuasive you should not only give a full answer to the question but make sure that it is well structured and organized. However, there are other important moments, you should pay attention to:
- Make sure that you understand the topic and requirements. Make a list of the key points you are required to include in your essay, as it will help you with proper structuring.
- Read the topic and formulate your opinion about the statement. Keep in mind that you have to analyze some literary character and his or her attitude or experience. Think of your own feelings and experience concerning the problem. Formulate your views about the effects of the character’s or your own behavior and the willingness to change them.
- Before writing the essay, formulate a thesis – the answer to the question you are supposed to give. To make your thesis clear, you should agree or disagree with the statement and present your reasons.
In order to make an exploration essay persuasive, you should support your thesis effectively. Due to this, it is crucial to keep to the following structure:
- Introduction.
- Character’s experience.
- Personal experience.
- Conclusion.
In an introduction you need to give a general idea about the topic. You should not mention any detailed information here. Just present your concepts in an abstract manner. Remember that the introductory paragraph should include: an attractive opening (in a form of a rhetoric question or some quotation), character’s introduction, mentioning of your experience, and a thesis.
Discuss a literary work you read, describe the behavior or attitude of some character towards the problem. Remember that your arguments must support the thesis.
Describe your or, for instance, your friend’s reaction towards the problem or situation mentioned in the topic. This paragraph also serves to validate your thesis, so present it as a supporting argument.
Summarize the key points of your essay. Begin with answering the topic question again and then mention the main ideas of your arguments. Finish the essay with general reflections on the topic.
Keep in mind that language is also important. Your sentences should be clear and meaningful. Pay attention to grammar, spelling and use appropriate words and synonyms according to the context.
